Colombia (Cartagena and Barranquilla)

Cartagena de Indias is in the north of Colombia approximately 250 km west of Santa Marta and it is ones of the oldest cities in South America. Barranquilla is half way between Cartagena and Santa Marta. They all in the Caribbean coast.

Colombia is trying to shake the bad reputation as a violent country due to drugs and political instability.Today the drug issue is still a problem that only will cease when the demand for it stop.

I found people friendly and eager to please with a welcoming greetings to strangers. Life in the country is very harsh and one understand the attraction by the farmer to grow coca instead of cacao and coffee beans.
Cartagena was founded by Pedro de Heredia in 1533 and named it after his home town in Spain.I became a fortified city after attacks from British pirates such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir John Hawkins and french corsairs like Jean Baptiste Ducasse and Sir Bernard Desjeans.
Barranquilla is town where riches and poverty are at extreme ends and falling in the most dangerous city in Colombia.
