Semuc Champey

Semuc Champey is a natural monument in the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, near the Q’eqchi’ Maya town of Lanquín. It consists of a natural 300 m limestone bridge, under which passes the Cahabón River. Atop the bridge is a series of stepped, turquoise pools and waterfalls. Another name for it might well be heaven.
But hell would be a good name for the rock-strewn, dusty, desolate road that takes you there. Nobody should attempt the drive while sober and without an Indiana Jones attitude.
Walking through the dense Guatemalan rain forest, you hike the steep trail that leads to the Mirador, a lookout point from which all seven pools are visible
The views from El Mirador are stunning and worth the pain to get there.

Hi mate, Gurmit here, all the best with fair winds and a calm sea to follow you on your way my very good friend, I look forward to seeing you back in Perth this next month and sharing a very good wine (or is it a whine!)… Take care my friend and see you soon! I remember the Christmas last year when we chatted on the magic phone!
